Optimus Popularis is a highly unique compact keyboard with a base screen that enables each key to be programmed to display any number, letter, symbol, animation, video, logo, and more. The device is comprised of a thin keyboard with a number of small keys on the front surface. The upper portion of the keyboard, between the numeral keys and the function keys, is reserved to display a customized range of important information. Users can assign keys to unlimited letters, symbols, numbers, etc. by utilizing an easy-to-use computer software program. The configuration software enables a user to program each button to reproduce a sequence of symbols and edit images separately for each keyboard layout. The keyboard is connected to a computer via a USB port. The configuration software can be opened on the computer, and the user can begin to customize their keyboard. The keyboard configuration is based on the concept of layers. The layers contain information about images and functions assigned to each key. The layers can be assigned to a specific application or work across multiple applications depending on user preferences.
Two types of plugins can be utilized to extend functionality of the keyboard: display and action plugins. Display plugins display images on the keys while action plugins define key press actions. Each key can be assigned one display and one action plugin. Plugins can be assigned on customized layers only.
